DCC 2017 - The Comic World Lost a Legend (Bernie Wrightson) this year - This was my FACEBOOk post in it's entirety - "When I was a teenager my Dad and I would typically spend an afternoon in Manhattan. We would often go to Forbidden Planet (a comic shop) near Union Square and look at art and buy some comics. My father, although he was an academic, did attend school on an art scholarship when he was younger. I remember my Dad always gravitating (as did I) to the art of Creepy and Eerie comics and particularly pointing out the pencil and detail work of Bernie Wrightson (Dad always liked the details) specifically. When Alex was 9 I was able to introduce him to Bernie and show him Bernie's work with the same wonder, excitement and enthusiasm that my father did with me. Unfortunately, Bernie passed away this weekend and the comic industry lost an icon. I didn't know Bernie well, but having been a fan of comics I run in comic circles that at times overlap. I've been fortunate enough to have had drinks w/ Bernie and spend time at cons w/ him - Always gracious and always humble. As I look at this piece of art I have by Bernie in my man-cave - I feel for my friends that knew him very well - Sorry for your loss. Thanks for letting my circle intersect w/ yours - he will be missed." #CityOfOthers #SwampThing Download
